September 17, 2011

Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the original Battlestar Galactica pilot airing on ABC.

Given that this is when the series was formally given life (outside of the fact that the pilot aired theatrically in Canada before it premiered in America), it comes as no surprise then that we would choose this day to formally launch Galactica Geek.

To summarize, Galactica Geek is a website that aims to go above and beyond fans unique content that you simply wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. When we endeavor to describe it, we feel that it more closely resembles a web magazine, although that’s not really the case in terms of updates. The site is updated nearly daily, as we publish your standard news, reviews, cast and crew updates, and the like… but when it comes to going beyond, we also will venture into the substance of the series and the fandom that has been built around it.

During the course of the week, we will slowly introduce you to the Galactica Geek crew, and publish new and exciting content that we know will engage you. From delving into the technological aspects of the series, to the psychological and even into the historical aspects, we aim to bring serious attention to the content of the various Battlestar Galactica series and their spinoffs.

If you are a prop maker, writer, cosplayer, and artist with a love for BSG, we want to hear from you as well, because we want to present the creative side of Battlestar Galactica and its fandom by showcasing fan creativity! Feel free to share with us and your fellow fans your work, and feel free to talk yourselves up (in a nice way, of course)!

Also, as part of our site launch, we will be celebrating by offering a series of contests daily via our Twitter and Facebook pages. Among the prizes offered: passes to the Battlestar Galactica exhibit at the Sci-Fi Museum in Seattle, t-shirts, keychains, small gift cards, books and more. Information on these contests will be released on Monday, September 19.

Galactica Geek looks forward to becoming your home away from home for Battlestar Galactica.

So say we all!
